The former “Mr. Money in the Bank” Seth Rollins shocked the wrestling world this past Sunday night when he cashed-in his Money in the Bank Briefcase to earn himself a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns in an impromptu triple-threat match for the title, fulfilling his role as the new face of WWE.
In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer gives insight as to when Rollins was made aware he would be cashing in and winning the belt.
According to Meltzer, Rollins was told late in the show Sunday he would be crowned champion and need to fly to New York City for “The Today Show” and fly back. Following that, he, Reigns and Lesnar were called into the back at the start of the Ronda Rousey angle during WrestleMania to go over the “new” finish with producer Michael Hayes.
Meltzer says despite the fact Rollins was made aware at the show, the decision was not a last-minute one. It is said Lesnar was likely made aware of the title change when he signed his new contract, even though the plan all along was to put the belt on Reigns as is.
It is unknown as to when Reigns himself found out.
Editor’s Note
Crazy. They must have had so much going through their heads as the match unfolded. Rollins must have been on Cloud 9.
