CM Punk has been away from the squared circle more nearly a year and a half now, having walked out of WWE following the 2014 “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view. He has signed on to fight in MMA with UFC, and has made it more than clear he never intends to step in a wrestling ring ever again.
However, it was noted several months back Punk did hint slightly at one more match down the line with former in-ring foe and real-life friend Samoa Joe. Now, it appears the feeling may be mutual.
In Jim Ross’ latest edition of “The Ross Report,” he and Joe discuss the prospects of Joe facing old foes in the ring. In it, Punk’s name is brought up, to which Joe dropped a little tease:
“You know, Punk. For everything it is we’ve still…I know he very much wants to have one last one, one last go. I’m sure he’d love for it to be one hundred minutes or ninety minutes, but we’ll see how that goes.”
Punk and Joe had a series of matches on the independent scene before breaking out big, usually lasting more than an hour. The matches were heralded for putting the two on the wrestling world map.
As noted Wednesday, Joe also revealed on the podcast he had interest in signing with WWE, and would possibly be making the jump to NXT.
Editor’s Note
Would be an enormous get for an independent company, likely shattering some iPPV records. I doubt it ever happens, though.
