Mistico, better known as the original Sin Cara has signed a deal with Puerto Rico’s World Wrestling League, according to a press release from the company’s president Richard Negrin.

It has previously been reported that Mistico had left World Wrestling Entertainment after his contract expired in January.

It is unknown how WWE will will approach this situation, as WWL appear to be using the Sin Cara name and likeness. In an interview with Mexican wrestlling show ‘Tercera Caida’ shortly after leaving WWE, Mistico claimed to own the rights to the Sin Cara character. Since December 2013, fellow Mexican wrestler Hunico has portrayed the Sin Cara character on WWE television. Mistico has gone on record saying he does not believe WWE should be using the character with another wrestler. Later this year, WWE Studios and Warner Bros. plan to release a co-produced direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movie which is believed to heavily feature the Sin Cara character.

The WWL has been in existence since 2012 and operates through cooperative efforts with other promoters, allowing wrestlers to operate with other companies in Latin America, similar to how the NWA operates in the United States. Along with the Sin Cara announcement, the WWL also announced a Mexican tour that includes familiar names such as Sabu, Carlito, Chavo Geurrero, Juventud Guerrera, Ricky Marvin and Blue Demon.

The full press release from the WWL can be read below.

The World Wrestling League has announced today that former WWE performer “Sin Cara” has just signed with the promotion.  WWL’s president Richard Negrin stated that “it is an honor and a priviledge to present our newest World Wrestling League’s talent, one of the most exciting Mexican “lucha libre” performers around the world: the original SIN CARA!  Welcome to your home, the WWL.
