Last Saturday, WWE inducted its Class of 2015 into its Hall of Fame on the WWE Network. While the ceremony made more headlines for going four hours more than anything else, one of the speeches many discussed afterwards was that of Larry Zbyszko.
Zbyszko, 63, was known not just for his career in the ring, but also behind the commentary desk as well. His skills behind the microphone were what led many to be confused, when he appeared at a loss for words during the ceremony. Many claimed he had a hard time staying on script with his speech, becoming often too emotional to get the words properly out.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson has since provided a possible reason as to why Zbyszko’s speech seemed so candid and unscripted. Essentially, it’s because it was.
Johnson reports Zbyszko actually lost his speech in a taxi cab, after he left it in a bag that the car accidentally drove away with WrestleMania weekend. Because of the short amount of time left until the ceremony, Zbyszko was forced to go off-script and essentially improvised the speech. This is the reason he appeared to get flustered at times, but also overwhelmed by the emotion of the night.
Zbyszko returned to WWE in 2013 when he signed a Legends Contract just after WrestleMania 29.
Editor’s Note
A strange story, but one that led to a nice outcome. He speech seemed genuine, and I was happy for him.
