After Brock Lesnar re-signed with WWE a week and a half ago, the final motions were put in place to finalize the main event for WrestleMania. While it was reported for some time Roman Reigns would be the man to walk away with the title, Seth Rollins ended up being the man carrying the strap after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

As noted Thursday, the three men went into the event with the notion WWE would be putting the belt on Reigns. However, they were told just before the main event this would no longer be the case, and Rollins would be the one winning it.

In an update provided by PWInsider, it appears the decision was made to put the belt on Rollins not long after Lesnar re-signed. It must have taken a large change of heart from WWE’s upper brass, but the outlet’s Mike Johnson says a source told him it was the Wednesday prior to WrestleMania the company decided it would pull the plug on Reigns and move in another direction.

It is unclear at this time as to why the three men were not kept in the loop prior to the show. Reigns’ family, which has rich WWE roots and was in attendance, was said to be furious with the company, having made the trip to see him win.

Editor’s Note

I still don’t get why they were made aware. Must have been heartbreaking for Reigns.
