As Wrestling Rumors recently noted, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was recently thrown in the pool as an option to become one of the voices of the rising promotion Lucha Underground. Underground’s current main announcer, Matt Striker, was the color commentator alongside Ross at “Wrestle Kingdom 9,” to which the two received positive reviews.
However, an update from Ross himself now seems to put these rumors to bed.
According to an interview conducted with Wrestling Inc., Ross has not been contacted by Lucha Underground.
“What Lucha Underground discusses internally, I’m not privy to that. I haven’t had a conversation with anyone there other than [Lucha Underground Co-Executive Producer] Chris DeJoseph on my podcast – which you can listen to soon – and Matt Striker, that’s it. So I don’t know what sort of discussions are ongoing internally at Lucha Underground. We’re sitting here talking and I can tell you that as of right now, my representative has had no conversations with Lucha Underground, and I have had less in that respect.
Alongside, Ross didn’t appear all that interested in returning to television on a consistent basis:
“It would take a very special engagement for me to re-engage with a weekly TV show. I’ve got so many projects that I really enjoy doing. I’m trying to finish my autobiography, which is a major undertaking. I’m doing these one man shows which I dearly love doing. My podcast is growing, which last year was voted one of the top three podcasts of the year.”
He will head to Sayreville, New Jersey and Philadelphia this upcoming week for this one-man show.
Editor’s Note
Don’t think Lucha would be his style. Not sure I want to see it happen, honestly.
