“Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Ric Flair Defeat The Spirit Squad to become World Tag Team Champions
Piper and Flair had a long-storied past. They had been enemies in WWE, as well a
s WCW. However, they had also teamed together some in WCW, but never in WWE, until 2006, when fans voted on the duo to face the then World Tag Team Champions, The Spirit Squad.
On Nov. 5, 2006, Flair and Piper shocked the world when they captured Tag Team gold together, making a memorable moment on WWE programming. The duo celebrated with “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes and Sgt. Slaughter the only way they knew how, by dancing to Rhodes’ WWE theme music before flashing their new titles to everyone in the arena and at home.
