Bret Hart Roddy Piper WrestleMania VIII

WrestleMania VIII
Intercontinental Champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper vs. Bret “Hitman” Hart

Piper was never considered to be a legendary in-ring technician. Athlete? Yes. Amazing character and voice in wrestling? Yes. But incredible technical wrestler? No.

However, one match will probably outshine all other Piper matches in terms of in-ring performance, and it was “Hot Rod’s” clash with the “Excellence of Execution” in 1992. Hart and Piper put on a clinic, both in terms of match quality, and by telling an amazing story with what they did inside the ring.

Piper would lose the Intercontinental Championship to Hart that night, but would help solidify “The Hitman” as the next big up-and-coming star. Something Hart needed, as the company would put the WWE Championship on his shoulders the following year amidst controversy.
