Roddy Piper Intercontinental Champion

“Royal Rumble” 1992
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper defeats The Mountie for the Intercontinental Championship

In 1992 at WWE’s annual “Royal Rumble” event, Piper won his first and only Intercontinental Championship. He defeated The Mountie to do it, in one of the most memorable Piper matches to date.

Piper would hold on the the title until WrestleMania VIII just two months later. In a classic WrestleMania match, Piper would lose the Intercontinental Championship to Bret Hart, but his reign as Intercontinental Champion helped elevate the mid-card talent fighting him for the gold, which led to such stars as Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Razor Ramon getting a nice rub from the prestige Piper brought back to the belt.
