Former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion has been training hard for his UFC debut sometime later this year. In the meantime, he chatted with FOX Sports regarding several topics related to UFC and his former employer. Below are some of the highlights.
Punk said he asked former UFC star Brock Lesnar about the hardest part of training in transitioning from WWE to UFC:
“I asked him what the hardest thing for him to do was; he’s a super freak athlete, but something had to be difficult for him. I find it’s the exact same thing I’m having difficulty with, and that’s learning to let go,” Punk explained. “Striking, sparring is completely different. Someone’s trying to punch me in the face, I’m trying to punch them in the face.
“But often I’ll find I’m too light on guys if I’m rolling, my hips aren’t heavy enough, it’s like I’m trying to work with them like the old pro wrestling kicking in, and he had the same problem, so it’s interesting to know that.”
He made it clear WWE is not something in his scheduled programming unless his wife, WWE Superstar AJ Lee, asks him to watch:
“Nope,” he said. “She’ll tell me when I should watch something, like something she’s excited about it, but she never does.”
Punk, who recently said UFC should put he and Lesnar on the same pay-per-view bill, reiterated he would like to see Brock in the octagon once more:
“I’d love to see Brock back,” Punk said about Lesnar returning to the UFC. “I think it would be good for Brock, and it would just be fun to have him around.”
