In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Bellator President Scott Coker seemingly confirmed there will be a large-scale bidding war for the talents of WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in 2015.
Bellator, widely seen as the No. 2 MMA company in the United States, has apparently reached out to Lesnar in a casual manner, given he is still under contract with WWE until just after WrestleMania 31.
Coker added:
“There hasn’t been any serious dialogue,” Coker said. “But when the time comes to have serious dialogue, we’ll be right there.”
It is speculated Lesnar will entertain offers from Bellator, UFC and WWE after his match at WrestleMania 31, whatever it may be. He had originally been locked in to face Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but mixed feelings on both Reigns and Lesnar’s championship run has opened up more possibilities that could change that event.
WWE recently issued comment regarding Lesnar’s supposed departure, claiming no truth to the rumors. He is scheduled to face John Cena at the “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view with the title on the line. It will be his fourth match with Cena since returning to the company in 2012 at “Extreme Rules.”
Lesnar, 37, previously fought MMA in UFC. His program with Frank Mir was among the most popular in company history.
Regarding Bellator, it was recently noted Alberto “El Patron,” originally Alberto Del Rio in WWE, is in talks with the company to fight.
