Alex Riley recently discussed his desire to return to the ring as a full-time competitor, where he had a high-profile feud with The Miz in 2011. He started a “#FreeRiley” trend, and attempted to get his desires out there.
There are now rumors his wishes may be coming to fruition.
On a conference call earlier this week, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations Paul Levesque, known on-screen as Triple H, was discussing the NXT brand. During the part of the call, he noted Riley was in the midst of a transition stage with his character, and teased there would be developments with him soon.
Riley, who has been on NXT commentary for the past couple of years, was then present for the “NXT” tapings Thursday nights. During the tapings, he was involved in altercations with new NXT Champion Kevin Owens, and even wrestled a match.
With his match on the tapings and some recent live event matchups, it is believed Riley may be transitioning to the ring on a more regular basis. Those in attendance were said to be impressed with his stamina and ability, and it is likely he will be between the ropes more.
Editor’s Note
He has a great look and charisma, just a matter of making it work. We’ll see what happens, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
