Actor David Spade may be famous for his roles in “Tommy Boy” and on “Saturday Night Live,” but the comedian may have upset some within the wrestling world Thursday.
Spade was caught by TMZ cameras in Los Angeles with some family and friends, and was asked to talk about his love for UFC. In the conversation, Ronda Rousey’s name came up, when the tabloid asked what his thoughts were on her desires to wrestle for WWE. Spade responded:
“Why does she want to go backwards?” “When will it be enough for Ronda Rousey?”
Spade, seemingly unaware of Rousey’s appearance at WrestleMania 31 alongside The Rock, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, went on to support Dana White’s decision not to let Rousey dabble into WWE anytime soon:
“She could get hurt, and fake wrestling is probably harder than real fighting. You could get hurt easier. I think she is so good, she’s probably just bored.”
Rousey herself has said she plans on returning to WWE at some point in the future, but does not know when. It will likely be after her UFC career is over. She had not planned on White denying her aspirations to work with WWE, and was taken by surprise by his assertions. WWE had at one time planned on putting her in a match with Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas, though it appears those plans have fallen through.
With that said, Stephanie McMahon was the guest on Chris Jericho’s podcast for the WWE Network a few weeks back, and felt the doors were not shut on her appearing in WWE at some point in the future. It is said she and Triple H are major supporters of female athletes becoming stars, which is why women’s wrestling has been a major focus in NXT.
