With the end of the year fast approaching, WWE has started to mull over who should be inducted into its Hall of Fame next year in Dallas.
PWInsider.com reports that Michael “PS” Hayes and the Fabulous Freebirds are “locks” for inductions in 2016. This is reportedly set in stone and will indeed happen.
Hayes, 56, recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with the company as road agent and voice in creative.
The group formed in 1979 and centered around Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts, although other members were involved at various points in time. They performed in a number of promotions, including the NWA (WCW), AWA and WWF.
The Freebirds found tremendous success in the ring, including runs with the WCW Tag Team Championship, the GWF Tag Team Championship, and the NWA American Tag Team Championship.
They’re also responsible for the revolutionary “Freebird Rule,” which allows any member of the team to switch into matches and defend the Tag Titles. WWE has recently brought this back into the fold with current Tag Team Champions, The New Day.
Editor’s Note
A well deserved honor for all involved. Kudos to Hayes for his commitment to the WWE. Excited to celebrate their accomplishments in 2016.
