Updated WrestleMania 29 Confirmed & Rumored Match Card

The following matches have been confirmed for WrestleMania 29, from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on April 7th.

WWE Championship
The Rock (c) vs. John Cena

John Cena won the 2013 Royal Rumble match, but put his WrestleMania spot on the line in a singles match against former champion, CM Punk. Cena won the match with an Attitude Adjustment, and earned the right to face the Rock once again, this time for the WWE Championship. 

World Heavyweight Championship
Alberto del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger earned his spot at Smackdown’s World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto del Rio, when he last defeated Randy Orton in an Elimination Chamber match. Swagger, claiming to be a “real American”, joined forces with an unlikely Zeb Colter (“Dirty” Dutch Mantel) and together are attempting to take back “their America” for the people. We, the People. 

There are also several potential matches that have either been rumored for this year’s WrestleMania pay-per-view, or seem to be WWE’s intention given the last few weeks of television programming.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar

After they beat the hell out of each other this week on Raw – complete with Brock Lesnar blade job – this seems all but confirmed.

CM Punk vs. The Undertaker

With Punk seemingly out of the WWE Championship picture, after losing clean to John Cena on Monday Night Raw, many have wondered and speculated on the Straight Edge Superstar’s position in this year’s WrestleMania. The most likely choice sees the return of the Undertaker, and would put the longest reigning WWE Champ of the modern era right into the path of the Deadman’s 20-0 WrestleMania streak. 

The Shield vs. Randy Orton, Ryback & Sheamus

It is likely the Shield will compete as a team at this year’s WrestleMania, but their opponents are up in the air at this point. Following their interactions on Raw this past Monday night, Randy Orton and Sheamus are being booked as strong choices, but Ryback was nowhere to be seen. Look for some variation of a 6-man tag match, as the Shield looks to pick up their third consecutive victory on WWE pay-per-view. 

Intercontinental Championship
Wade Barrett (c) vs. Sheamus

Sheamus has been giving Barrett a hard time over his lack of performance in Dead Man Down, and with the way they’re going you would have to assume WWE plans to throw them together at WrestleMania. But of course, there’s the aforementioned Shield involvement to consider; seems unlikely he’d work two different feuds simultaniously. And of course, if Barrett is going to be wrestling, you’d think the title would be on the line. Personally, his mini-feud with Bo Dallas seems a bit incomplete. 

Damien Sandow & Cody Rhodes vs. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth

Nobody is really sure as to what they’re doing with Team Rhodes Scholars – are they, or are they not a tag team? What’s more odd is that WWE, instead of using some of the other established teams – The Usos, Prime Time Players, Los Colons, etc. – are moving towards are a reunion for the former tag team champions. I’ve always encouraged wrestling companies to push non-title feuds to boost their respective divisions, but this random match doesn’t seem the type to fill a WrestleMania spot. 

Other wrestlers assumed to have matches at this year’s WrestleMania include Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, United States Champion Antonio Cesaro, The Miz, Big Show, Kane, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, and Rey Mysterio.
