WWE is under fire due to an angle booked for Michael Cole during “RAW” on March 30. As previously reported, Cole was assaulted by former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar during the post-WrestleMania edition of the WWE flagship program.
Following the attack from Lesnar, where he attacked not only Cole, but the entire commentary team and a camera man, WWE reported that Cole suffered a “cervical fracture” and “damaged vertebrae” as the result of the emphatic F-5 that he had received.
The issue with this completely fake injury report? The injury that WWE claims Cole acquired at the hand of Lesnar is what ultimately caused the death of Perro Aguayo, Jr. during a match with former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio, Jr. on March 20th.
In the latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” host Dave Meltzer brings up this fact, and expresses the serious issue WWE may face if they continue to run with this list of injuries for Cole. Meltzer, as well as many others who put two-and-two together have expressed great disappointment in WWE for their lack of tact in this angle being booked as such.
While the use of these specific injuries for Cole was likely just an oversight on WWE creative’s part, the fake injury angle being used just ten days removed from Aguayo, Jr.’s death seems ignorant and unnecessary.
Aguayo, Jr. passed away on March 20 to the same injury, a fractured spine, which reportedly occurred during the bout. He then suffered cardiac arrest due to the injury.
Michael Cole is totally fine, and the injury report is strictly kayfabe, or part of the storyline.
Editor’s Note:
I’m sure they weren’t thinking about Aguyao, but that may be the exact problem here. They weren’t thinking.
