The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the WWE is not ready for Ring of Honor star Mike Bennett to start in their developmental program just yet. As we previously reported, many of the WWE’s newly signed talent is being told to report to Orlando by the first week of July, as the new Performance Center will be opening then. Bennett was reportedly not one of these developmental wrestlers told to be present upon opening of the Center. He will continue to work for Ring of Honor until his “number is called” to begin his WWE developmental contract.
Bennett has been wrestling on the independent circuit since his professional wrestling debut in 2002. He has been a ROH star since his signing with the company in 2010. He was even given the privilege of competing with wrestling veteran Jerry Lynn during his final ROH match before retirement. He is currently in a relationship with his on-screen valet, former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis. It is unsure if she will be joining Bennett in the WWE upon his debut, but it isn’t stretch to think that she might. Kanellis has been hinting at a WWE return for months, saying that the company had contacted her about rejoining the company in some way, shape, or form prior to WrestleMania 29, but the plans fell through and she has remained at Bennett’s side working indy shows all around the country, including those for Ring of Honor and Family Wrestling Entertainment.
