The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update on the next season of “Tough Enough,” which is slated to only air on the WWE Network. While original plans for the program called for a production and filming start date of July, budgetary cuts have led to the entire show being scrapped for the time being.
Initially, production’s budget was just cut and they were going to be moving forward in filming without a lot of funding, but the report claims WWE Studios decided to scrap the project altogether. There have been some backstage discussions about moving production of a new season to the Fall/Winter of 2014, but nothing is definite and at the moment, the series is on a permanent hold.
WWE “Legends House” is facing the same dilemma. Production of the hit WWE Network program’s second season, which is rumored to feature the likes of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and possibly WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, is also on hold do to budgetary concerns.
“Tough Enough” began in the early 2000’s as a Reality program that saw random people try-out to become Professional Wrestlers. However, a new season of the program will be structured a bit differently, where cameras would simply follow around stars who successfully made it through a Performance Center try-out and begin working in Orlando at the complex. Reports claim it will follow stars like Prince Devitt, Kevin Steen, and KENTA as they train in the WWE Performance Center and try to make their way to NXT.
Rumored to return as host of “Tough Enough,” is WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
Editor’s Note:
I’d watch that in a heartbeat.
