The worst kept secret in Professional Wrestling was announced to the world openly during the Season Finale of WWE’s reality show, “Legends House.” The episode saw WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson come out of the closet and reveal that he is a homosexual, something Patterson has not discussed much in public or on WWE programming.
Multiple media outlets are covering the story as if the reveal was shocking, when many wrestling fans have known about Patterson’s sexual orientation for years. TMZ.com is one of these media outlets that had the following to say about Patterson’s transparent moment on the program.
WWE legend Pat Patterson just revealed that he’s been living in the closet for the past 50 years — and has finally decided to go public about that fact he’s a gay man.
The 73-year-old dropped the news on the finale of WWE Network’s “Legends’ House” … saying, “For once in my life I’m going to be me now.”
Patterson — who’s a WWE exec — explained that he’s been keeping the secret out of the public eye for 5 decades … and had a partner for roughly 40 years, but he passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Patterson has been Vince McMahon‘s right hand man for decades … he also was the company’s first Intercontinental champion and helped create the “Royal Rumble.”
The whole thing was incredibly emotional … and the reaction from Pat’s fellow wrestling legends was touching — with the guys telling him, “We love you Pat … we always love you.”
BleacherReport.com also sent out a “mass alert” about Patterson’s revelation on “Legends House.” You can watch Patterson’s candid moment below.
Editor’s Note:
Must feel good for Pat to be able to talk about that openly and freely now. 50 years ago when he started in the business, things were a lot different, and Patterson would not have even thought about being an openly gay man in Professional Wrestling. However, in this day and age, stars like Darren Young can live openly and freely without fear or much discrimination from their locker room peers. Patterson is a legend. It’s good that he’s open about this. It’s just funny to me how long every smart fan has known about Patterson being gay, he announces that he is two years ago during a show they taped, they air it finally, and media outlets run with it. Hilarious to me.
