According to PWInsider.com, WWE “SummerSlam” will likely be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. As previously reported, WWE has had a proverbial field day in trying to find a new home for the annual August PPV event since New Jersey’s IZOD Center announced that it would be closing it’s doors at the end of March.
It was previously reported that “SummerSlam” would no longer be held at the IZOD Center, and that WWE was searching for a new venue in the New York/New Jersey area. The Prudential Center in New Jersey, as well as the Barclays Center and Citi Field in New York were then looked at as replacements.
However, it was recently reported that a “Legends of Wrestling” event will be held at Citi Field near the date for “SummerSlam,” featuring WWE Hall of Famers like Ric Flair on the card of the event. WWE immediately had the advertisements featuring Flair’s name, as well as other likenesses signed to WWE, removed since they currently own the rights to those names.
With WWE being upset with Citi Field going with this event as its first professional wrestling endeavor, it seems as if the company is going after the Barclays Center with more ferocity and wants “SummerSlam” to emanate from Brooklyn. WWE had previously reserved over 1,000 rooms at the Hilton hotel near the IZOD Center in New Jersey. It’s unsure if the Hilton will continue to be where WWE houses its talent during “SummerSlam” weekend, or if they will lose business with the event moving to the Barclays Center.
Editor’s Note:
I just want them to figure out exactly where it’s going to be so I can buy some freaking tickets already.
