Former WCW and TNA World Champion Sting is expected to work one match for WWE before retiring in 2015. As we previous reported, Sting is reportedly locked in to some kind of deal with World Wrestling Entertainment and will make his debut soon, possibly as early as WrestleMania weekend.
While many different sources have provided conflicting information in regards to Sting and WWE, a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is claiming that Sting is expected to work at least one match for the company before he retires in 2015.
Many believe that his one match will be against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara. While it is unsure as to when WWE will announce Sting’s involvement with the company, and begin to build towards that match (if that’s the route they’re going to go), “The Icon” will be in New Orleans during WrestleMania XXX weekend, and WWE could easily begin promoting Sting vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 either during WrestleMania on April 6, or the following night during “Monday Night Raw” on April 7.
The only confirmed thought backstage at this time, is that Sting will work one match, retire, and likely immediately go into the WWE Hall of Fame. While those that represent Sting have denied that he is scheduled to appear for WWE on either Sunday, April 6 or Monday, April 7, this is exactly what Sting’s camp would have been instructed to say if both parties were committed to keeping his debut a secret.
Sting will be appearing as a “main event” name at WrestleCon in New Orleans on April 6, just hours before WrestleMania XXX kicks-off. Rumors have indeed been running rampant for months saying that the plan for Sting’s debut has always been scheduled for the April 7 “Monday Night Raw,” which seems more likely than any other time, if Sting has in fact signed with the company.
With WWE working on Sting merchandise to start peddling, it looks like it may only be a matter of time before the “Man Called Sting” takes his first step onto a WWE stage very soon.
Editor’s Note
While it seems like Sting may finally make the move to World Wrestling Entertainment, I have to continue saying what I’ve said since 2001. Sting…in the WWE? I’ll have to see it to believe it. Let us know what you think of all of these Sting/WWE rumors in the comments section below!
