New reports from multiple sources claim former WWE and ECW Champion Rob Van Dam will return to WWE WrestleMania weekend. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Van Dam will make his return during the April 7 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”
PWInsider.com is also reporting that Van Dam’s travel arrangements have been booked by WWE officials, and he will be in New Orleans the entire weekend on their dime (not dime bag). Van Dam has been teasing at an upcoming return on Twitter for months, and it seems that his presence during WrestleMania XXX weekend is eminent.
Reports claimed WWE definitely wanted Van Dam to work their most “hardcore” of PPVs in May, “Extreme Rules,” and now it seems that they will get their wish. “The Whole F’n Show” is expected to work a several month schedule, which would include “Monday Night Raw” and “Smackdown” appearances, as well as him being included in the 2014 “Money In The Bank” PPV.
Van Dam made his first “part-time” return for WWE during the 2013 “SummerSlam season,” and it seems like the company may use him this year during the Summer months yet again. It is unsure of how long Van Dam will work for the company in 2014, but he is expected to show up in some way during WrestleMania XXX weekend.
Editor’s Note
I fully believe that Rob Van Dam will be a surprise entrant in the André the Giant Memorial 30-Man Battle Royal. There are 4 slots left to be filled with surprise names, and Van Dam seems like an easy addition. We know he’s going to be in New Orleans the entire weekend. Why would WWE merely bring him out on Monday? How would that play out? If they use him in the Battle Royal on Sunday, it at least adds another “big name” that’s not a waste to the Battle Royal, then his return to “Monday Night Raw” isn’t as random. Have him face someone that he conflicted with during the Battle Royal on “RAW,” otherwise his return on “RAW” will be “just because.” Give it some meaning WWE, and book his return creatively please.
