The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that Tyson Kidd will soon be competing as a masked superstar for WWE. Kidd, real name T.J. Wilson, has apparently already had a mask created for him by a well-known Lucha Libre mask architect.
According to the report, WWE officials want to use Kidd because of how talented he is, but they feel like they’ve “marginalized” the “Tyson Kidd” persona and there’s not much else they can do with it. Outside of his involvement with the New Hart Foundation, Kidd has not really been over with the WWE Universe. Coming off of a recent return from an injury, Kidd has been seen more on NXT programming than anything “main roster.”
Kidd will compete in a NXT Championship match on May 29 during the “NXT Takeover” event on the WWE Network. He is not expected to win the title, but many believe that his match with Adrian Neville will steal the show.
It is unsure if the company will try and push Kidd as a “Mexican” wrestler while under the mask, but he has definitely had a mask made. There were rumors of Kidd and Evan Bourne possibly forming a tag team in the near future, but if WWE officials go through with this masked wrestler gimmick, it is unlikely that they will become partners.
Editor’s Note:
I mean, the guy is so talented in the ring. He just has very little “it” factor IMO. Never been able to get me interested in cheering for him outside of his ring work.
