New reports have speculated on the reason behind WWE booking Brock Lesnar for a Live Event at MSG on Oct. 3, as previously reported. This will only be the third WWE Live Event Lesnar has worked for the company since his return in 2012, and will be the second this year.

Lesnar last appeared at a WWE Live Event in Tokyo, Japan on July 4. WWE, seeing the marketability of Lesnar working the event, decided to air the house show on the WWE Network, naming it, “Beast in the East.” Lesnar destroyed New Day member Kofi Kingston in a  squash match at the event.

Knowing that this is what WWE did with Lesnar’s last house show appearance, many think WWE will likely broadcast the upcoming Madison Square Garden event on the WWE Network, although that has not been confirmed. However, it seems that adding Lesnar to the Live Event card was not so that the company could use his drawing power to air a WWE Network special.

WWE is seemingly using Lesnar’s pull with the fans to sell out the arena. According to reports, WWE hopes that Lesnar will help at the ticket office, and that his addition to the show will help cover the cost of running the house show in MSG.

It also seems that Lesnar has mandatory house show dates listed in his contract, where he must appear and work a certain number of Live Events in a given year. Nonetheless, Lesnar’s addition to the Oct. 3 event gives WWE multiple ways to reap the benefits of using his name on the marquee.

Editor’s Note:

They’d be dumb if they don’t stream the show on the network. They’re wanting to do more events like that anyway. You have Lesnar in MSG. Do it.
