The Next-Gen release of “WWE 2K15” has been pushed back to November. 2K announced the new dates on Sept. 15, stating that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the upcoming WWE 2K installment will drop on Nov. 18 domestically, and Nov. 21 internationally.
Initially, the game’s release was scheduled to occur across all consoles on Oct. 28 in the U.S. and Oct. 31 internationally. However, due to some tinkering with the Next-Gen gameplay, only the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will still launch on the original release dates.
2K and Yukes have issued a statement on the Next-Gen delay, saying,
“Visual Concepts and Yuke’s are committed to delivering the most authentic and action-packed WWE experience to date, including release for the very first time on next-generation consoles,” said Greg Thomas, President, Visual Concepts. “The additional development time enables our talented teams to ensure the WWE 2K15 next-gen experience fully meets our expectations.”
With pre-sale copies of the “Hulkamania Edition” of “WWE 2K15” already sold-out in the U.S., 2K’s upcoming 2015 WWE installment has garnered a lot of attention already. Rumors surfaced at the beginning of September that the game may be delayed, but for more controversial reasons than graphics-tinkering.
The delay was initially expected due to legal discrepancies between CM Punk and WWE. Punk’s attorneys recently served World Wrestling Entertainment with a multipage letter in regards to the company’s use of Punk’s name and likeness. Royalties due Punk were also addressed in the letter. Since being issued the legal document, WWE has since removed all Punk merchandise from WWEShop.com in order to keep from having to pay Punk moving forward.
Punk’s inclusion in “WWE 2K15” could lead to further delays, unless WWE agrees to pay him whatever he is asking in terms of royalties for the appearance. As of right now, Punk is still featured in the Showcase mode of the game as part of two playable feuds.
“WWE 2K15” is now set to be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 18 in the U.S. and Nov. 21 internationally, while PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will be released on Oct. 28 domestically and Oct. 31 internationally.
Editor’s Note:
Oh HERE we go. You wonder why we haven’t seen a lot from this game yet…well it’s because it’s not ready to go. That…and Punk is probably slowing this process down greatly.
