The guys from Great North Wrestling have uploaded a new interview with former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion Jacques Rougeau. During the interview, Rougeau states that he is surprised at how big of an professional wrestling icon WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels became, due to his attitude backstage before his “rebirth” as a Christian in the early 2000’s.
Rougeau also talks about a specific backstage altercation where he had to tell HBK that if he didn’t wise up, Rougeau would definitely knock his teeth out. Here’s what Rougeau said,
“I had a problem with him in London one day. Yeah, I had to invite him into a fight, and he backed down. We were all sitting in the cafeteria for a TV day…and he just started picking on me. Maybe I wasn’t in a good mood or nothing like this or that, then it finally got to the point where he looks at me and said, ‘I’m not the [British] Bulldogs.’ And he threatened me…he threatened me in front of everybody, and I had just come out of a feud with the Bulldogs (a real life, non-scripted backstage feud) and I thought I didn’t wanna get into another feud. So I backed down, I turned around and left.
So he thought he won the battle, mentally and everything, and then the next day when we got to the town, I thought about it, ok, I gotta save face. If I don’t save fave, I’ll be a “coward”. So as soon as he walked into the arena, I told him in front of Marty Jannetty, and my brother Raymond was waitinging on the side, I said, ‘I wanna talk to you in the room.’ So he looked at me and said, ‘Oh yeah?’ I said, ‘Yeah. Don’t worry, I just want to talk to you in the room. So he walked in the room and I came up to his face and I said, ‘Shawn, the next time you talk to me like you did like that, I’m going to punch your teeth out. You hear me?’ And he’s like putting his face down.
He did the job that night.”
