On Feb. 12, former WWE Champion John Cena discusses his eye injury during a press conference in Abu Dhabi, where the company kicks off their weekend tour Thursday night. As previously reported, Cena’s injury is legitimate, as well as part of his storyline with United States Champion Rusev.
Cena suffered a cornea injury during WWE Live Events at the beginning of February, and has been working with it since. However, WWE stopped him from wrestling during the Feb. 8 weekend house shows, as well as the Feb. 9 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”
It was during this episode of WWE’s flagship program, that Rusev went after Cena’s eye by throwing him face first into the LED light board on the set’s stage. Now, Rusev is the one to blame for the injury, to further build towards their match at WWE “Fastlane” on Feb. 22.
When discussing his injury, Cena told those present during the press conference,
“The WWE is being extra cautious. A scratched cornea is basically like a scratch on the surface of your eye. I’ve had this injury multiple times. My vision is blurry, it did not effect my driving [around Yas Marina], I was not the one to get lapped over here. As always I like to show up and go and I will be ready tonight and for all three nights.”
Cena is not only expected to perform throughout the Feb. 12-15 tour, but he will also be ready to work during “Fastlane” as well.
Editor’s Note:
This happened with him last year. How is he getting his eye scratched so much? Nikki?
