According to a report from PWInsider, hall of famer Shawn Michaels is in negotiations to join their Performance Center as a coach and trainer. He would be working full time for the training facility in Orlando, Florida.
The initial plan was for Michaels to take over the “finishing class,” which is currently run by Terry Taylor. Taylor had to undergo recent neck surgery, but has since made a recovery, and is now back at the Center.
As of last night, the deal was considered to be set in stone. However, as of this morning, there are some complications that are delaying Michaels’ full return. The biggest is having to relocate his family from Texas to Florida, which is still being discussed.
Michaels is no slouch when it comes to training the next generation of superstars. He founded a wrestling academy in San Antonio in 1999, and helped to launch the careers of Daniel Bryan and Bryan Kendrick, among others.
It should be noted that one of the reasons that WWE is bringing in new coaches is because current trainers, Sara Amato and Adam Pearce will be heading to the main roster to serve as full-time producers. Scotty 2 Hotty and Stevie Richards have been among several that the company has brought in to work with their talent.
Editor’s Note:
If they can make this work, this would be one of the best moves that WWE could make. Michaels is undoubtedly one of the greatest performers in the history of the company, and the knowledge that he could impart on future superstars would be invaluable.
