That question was answered in the main event. After hitting Roman Reigns with a second pedigree, Seth Rollins fulfilled his destiny, and recovering from an injury that put him on the shelf for 6 months, defeated his former brother in The Shield to become a 2-time champion.
But the evening was far from over.
Earlier in the night, Dean Ambrose overcame 5 other superstars, and climbed the ladder to capture his first “Money In The Bank” briefcase. As the holder of the case, The “Lunatic Fringe” is guaranteed a title opportunity at anytime within a full calendar year.
However, Ambrose needed less than an hour to decide when to make his move.
Moments after Rollins defeated Reigns, Ambrose would come up from underneath the ring and attack Rollins from behind. This would prompt him to immediately cash in his contract, hit Rollins with Dirty Deeds, and pick up the victory, winning his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
This marks the second time that a “Money In The Bank” contract holder has cashed in his contract on the same night that he won it. The first time came in 2010, when Kane cashed in on the same night, winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Rey Mysterio.
Editor’s Note:
Although this cash in was teased on “Monday Night Raw,” I did not think they would actually go through with it. I don’t agree with the decision, and still think that Roman Reigns should be the champion. However, this opens up plenty of storylines throughout the summer, and will give us plenty of reasons to tune in. Congratulations to Dean Ambrose on his first World Championship run! It’s very well deserved, there’s no doubt.
