A new Intercontinental Champion has been crowned on “Monday Night Raw.”

Less than 24 hours after Zack Ryder won the title in a 7-man ladder match at WrestleMania 32, The Miz defeated “Long Island Iced Z” in an impromptu match on “Raw” to become the new champion.

Ryder made an appearance on “Raw” to thank everyone for his support over the years, including his dad, who celebrated with him in the ring after his victory last night. This led to The Miz coming out and challenging Ryder to a match, which was quickly accepted.

At the conclusion of the match, Miz was involved in an altercation with Ryder’s father, who was sitting ringside. Out of nowhere, former WWE superstar Maryse, who is also Miz’s wife, made her return to the company. This would lead to a distraction, which would give Miz the opportunity to hit the Skull Crushing Finale, capturing the gold.

This victory marks The Miz’s 5th reign as Intercontinental Champion.

Editor’s Note:

While I’m not surprised that “Long Island Iced Z’s” title reign only lasted 24 hours, WWE blew a perfect opportunity to establish a new heel as the champion. That would have been a perfect storyline to begin, ending a feel good moment for a beloved superstar like Ryder.
