WWE fans had to wake up bright and early on Saturday morning to catch the live airing of “Beast in the East,” which was a special WWE Network exclusive event taking place at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan.
The event was highlighted by an NXT Championship bout, with No. 1 contender Finn Bálor going one-on-one with champion Kevin Owens, In the end, it was Balor emerging victorious, capturing his first championship in WWE in front of the fans that helped make him a household name overseas.
According to PWInsider.com, WWE officials were very happy with the live stream numbers for the show, especially considering how early it aired in the United States (5:30 a.m. ET, to be exact).
There was a worry that the numbers would come in rather low due to the time and it being the Fourth of July, however, “Beast in the East” pulled through in the end.
Nikki Bella retained her WWE Divas Championship in a Triple Threat match against Tamina Snuka and Paige, a returning Chris Jericho defeated Neville, Brock Lesnar worked his first match since WrestleMania 31 against The New Day’s Kofi Kingston, and the main event featured a tag team match with John Cena and Dolph Ziggler taking on King Barrett and Kane.
