It’s all about the Benjamins in WWE, and I’m not referring to former superstar Shelton Benjamin either.
According to a report by SEScoops.com, World Wrestling Entertainment is on a mission to save money, resulting in budget cuts taking place across the board.
11 superstars, including Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal of 3MB, were released by WWE this past Thursday, which is just another example of the company trying to reduce their spending.
A “well-placed source” tells SEScoops that NXT’s budget is already being cut for both production and post-production purposes.
The roster is set to be evaluated over the next month, with many cuts set to follow shortly thereafter.
WrestleZone.com is also reporting that WWE is looking to cut nearly $20 million from their budget in 2014.
Some key production elements, such as Bad News Barrett’s scissor lift and Fandango’s gold curtain, have been taken out as well. The truck used to transport the props cost WWE upwards of $250,000.
Editor’s Note
The all-mighty dollar triumphs over everything. The most important thing to take away from the story is the potential roster cuts. We’ve already seen 11 superstars get the axe. We’re not done yet, folks.
