At WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans, the jaws of wrestling fans across the globe collectively dropped to the floor as we all bore witness to one of the biggest moments in the history of professional wrestling; the end of The Undertaker’s winning streak at the event.

No one at WrestlingRumors.net forecasted such a turn of events. To be fair, when a guy goes 21-0 in his career at WrestleMania, you tend to play it safe and put your money on the man that’s undefeated.

I was leaning back in my reclining chair with a bottle of Coke Zero in my hand and a bag of Humpty Dumpty sour cream potato chips in my lap as I watched Brock Lesnar hook the leg of Undertaker after delivering a third F-5. It seemed like standard procedure in a streak match. Undertaker kicks out of everything. He’ll power out after a count of two and the fans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will go nuts.

Right?

1……….2……………3.

Nothing shocks me in professional wrestling. At the time, I felt like I had seen it all.

That shocked me. Actually, that may be an understatement. I felt like I had just jammed a fork into an electrical outlet that was just soaked in warm water.

I immediately jumped to the conclusion that the referee had botched the count. It was the only thing that made sense. No way was that supposed to happen. It couldn’t be true.

Then the graphic of “21-1” appeared on my screen. It finally sunk in.

The Undertaker lost. He actually lost.

At the end of the day, professional wrestling is predetermined entertainment. The results of everything we see out there in the squared circle have already been conjured up. The competitors are fully aware of what’s going on, but we aren’t.

That doesn’t change how I feel about the moment.

My brother Jonathan had been out that night visiting an old friend, returning home just minutes after WrestleMania XXX had gone off the air. He hadn’t followed the WWE product in a few years, but I still felt it necessary to inform him of what had transpired. I figured he’d be interested to know. Don’t ask me why.

His reaction was priceless. Jonathan started chuckling away as a huge smile came across his face. It wasn’t meant to be a slight at my most random of comments. He just couldn’t believe that either Undertaker or the WWE had the guts to pull the trigger.

This obviously wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. This was the plan from the very beginning. Lesnar was always going to be “the one” whether you liked it or not.

The honor of ending Undertaker’s streak wasn’t bestowed upon a young and up-and-coming WWE superstar who could have used the rub to propel themselves to greatness. It wasn’t even given to a man who works full-time for the company.

It was ended by a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, NCAA Collegiate Champion and WWE Undisputed Champion. There’s no denying Brock Lesnar of his credentials. He’s a bad, bad man.

If you’re going to have The Undertaker lose, you might as well have him lose to one of the most feared and physically imposing professional athletes of the modern era, right? It took a superhuman effort from one of the greatest physical specimens on the planet to knock off “The Deadman” on the grandest stage of them all.

This may not even be Mark Calloway’s last match. Rumors of a possible Undertaker vs. Sting bout at WrestleMania 31 are still running rampant as of this writing. He may not be undefeated anymore, but that shouldn’t take away from this potential dream encounter between two performers that have essentially mirrored each other over the past decade and a half.

We’ll likely have a better indication of where all of that is headed after “Monday Night RAW” later tonight.

For now, I just want to give a solo round of applause to WWE for putting on one heck of a WrestleMania XXX. If you’ve been following my work here on the site, you’re probably aware of how judgemental and negative I had been over the buildup for this feud and the card in general.

Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar won’t be remembered as a four or five-star classic. It certainly won’t be remembered for how it was built up in the weeks that led up to the event.

It’s going to be remembered for how it ended.

You got me, WWE. You got me good.
