At a WWE Live Event in Abbotsford, British Columbia on Aug. 8, Dolph Ziggler defeated Randy Orton cleanly in the main event.

That may come as a surprise to those who follow WWE Live Event results regularly as Ziggler is rarely booked to go over in his matches.

Rumors began circulating over WWE possibly punishing Orton for his recent social media outburst at a female fan he called “Ms. Piggy,” but that appears to not be the case.

With Roman Reigns working an Australian tour and Dean Ambrose having beaten Seth Rollins by disqualification earlier in the evening, WWE needed a face character to square off with Orton to close the event.

As is the case with most of their house shows, a face was booked to emerge victorious, thus sending a majority of fans home happy.

That could only mean good things for Ziggler as he attempts to move back into the main event scene permanently.

He will challenge The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 17. Orton will face Reigns at the same event.

Editor’s Note

Never count out Ziggler. WWE obviously sees his ability to get a crowd reaction, as well as have quality matches between the ropes. It’s just a matter of preserving his momentum and using it efficiently.
