We reported back in May that WWE was interested in bringing in the “Four Horsewomen” of MMA to make an appearance at “SummerSlam” in August.
The four women in question are UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke.
According to F4WOnline.com, the word backstage is that it won’t be happening.
UFC President Dana White doesn’t want any of his fighters appearing on WWE programming while under contract.
Rousey wanted to bring her fellow “Horsewomen” along, but WWE only wanted to use her.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, Rousey discussed the possibility of her joining World Wrestling Entertainment after she’s done with MMA:
“It’s so similar to planning out fight scenes. I was just kind of messing around and thinking about cool moves to do in fight scenes. I really think of WWE like the purest form of stunts, kind of like in movies they say the purest form of acting is theatre because it’s live and all in one shot. I feel like WWE is the same for stunt work. I just kind of try to borrow from them a little bit and maybe I can steal some of their stunt work, throw it in a movie. If an opportunity comes up to show up and be a guest host or whatever, that would be pretty cool.”
Editor’s Note
While it would be awesome to see Rousey in a WWE ring, it’s completely understandable for White to not want his big draws risking an injury. Maybe one day…..
