Pro wrestling over the past few years has seen a greater allowance for intergender wrestling. In Lucha Underground, intergender wrestling was very common, with names such as Sexy Star, Mariposa, and Ivelisse all competing against men in the company. In fact, Ivelisse was a two-time Lucha Underground Trios Champion.
During a panel for Boston Wrestling MWF, WWE Hall of Famers Tony Atlas and Mark Henry, and with Vickie Guerrero, were asked on their thoughts on intergender wrestling. Mark Henry stated that he is fine with it, as long as it is in the confines of professional wrestling and does not involved any kind of death matches or males hitting females in the face. Vickie Guerrero agreed with Henry’s assessment.
However, Tony Atlas does not approve.

“In my day, you had what you call a mixed tag [match]. And the way it worked, when the guy was in the ring, the guy would get in the ring, and automatically when the guy tagged in the female wrestler, the male would get out, and the two females would get in. I remember Moolah doing it, Wendi Richter did it. But as far as a man wrestling a woman, it don’t make sense to me. I’m like Mark; I raised daughters, I’ve got a beautiful wife, you know — I just don’t want to see a guy hit a woman. You know, I just don’t want to see that.”
Impact Wrestling has been very open to intergender competition. So much, that Tessa Blanchard is a top competitor in the men’s division. In fact, Blanchard will be competing against current Impact World Champion Sami Callihan at the upcoming Hard to Kill pay-per-view.
She recently competed against Madman Fulton, as well as became the number one contender for the Impact World Championship by winning a gauntlet match including Brian Cage, Moose, Rich Swann, Michael Elgin, and Daga. At Bound for Glory, Blanchard was the only female who was a part of the five-way ladder match for the X Division Championship.
