Since its inception at WrestleMania 30, the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal has been an opportunity for those not involved in a major angle to get their chance to compete at the biggest stage of the year.
In total, there have been four winners of the battle royal, which includes (in order) Cesaro, The Big Show, Baron Corbin, and Mojo Rawley. Although winning this match did not have a significant effect on their careers, it was still a monumental moment that cannot be revoked.
This year, the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will have a stronger focus. Particularly, since the Andre the Giant documentary premieres just two days after WrestleMania on April 10.
Here is the trailer for the documentary.
WWE is looking to make this a marquee part of WrestleMania 34, and as a result, reportedly going to have a big star win the match to further highlight it. According to The Sun, the chosen name to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is Goldberg.
As announced by WWE, Goldberg will be headlining this year’s WWE Hall of Fame. This means that he would compete following being inducted into the Hall of Fame, which makes it the second straight year this happened.
Last year, Kurt Angle headlined the Hall of Fame, and returned to compete on two occasions in 2017. Angle would have a record of 2-0, teaming with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at TLC, and leading Team Raw at Survivor Series.
