As WrestleMania week comes to a close today, Saturday April 5, PWInsider recently published a report regarding who WWE has brought in for the festivities. In the website’s report, it is revealed that WWE has flown in Charles Wright, Lanny Poffo, and Danny Davis.
Wright, better known as “The Godfather” and “Papa Shango,” was on the “Old School” Jan. 6 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Additionally, Wright made a surprise appearance at the 2013 Royal Rumble as “The Godfather.” If Wright does appear at WrestleMania, it will likely be as “Papa Shango,” as the character’s voodoo background screams New Orleans.
“Leaping” Lanny Poffo worked for the then World Wrestling Federation from 1985-1992. During his tenure, he never achieved as much fame as his late brother “Macho Man” Randy Savage did. In the past, Poffo has not been shy to talk about his rocky relationship with WWE and his feelings towards Savage possibly being inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame.
Dan Marsh, better known as Danny Davis in WWF, worked for the WWF from 1982-1995. Throughout his time with the company, he worked as both a wrestler and referee. When working as a wrestler, he was known as “Dangerous” Danny Davis.
Unlike Wright, both Poffo and Davis have not been utilized by WWE in quite some time.
Editor’s Note
If the report is true, I would not be surprised to see Wright appear as “Papa Shango” at some point during WrestleMania. Seeing as it is in “NOLA,” it would make sense. He could very well be a surprise entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but I think if he does appear, it would be on the two-hour pre-show.
Regarding Poffo and Davis, I doubt the two would appear for the viewing audience. It’s very interesting that Poffo may have been flown in by WWE, as in the past, he has been very open about his disdain for the company.
