On Thursday, June 12, WWE released 11 of its personnel, likely due to the WWE Network struggling to generate much revenue. Following the releases, it was rumored that more cuts may be made on the administrative side. As of this writing, the only administrative release to come out was one of the company’s head writers. Though, his release did not have much to do with financials.
Now, WWE has released another member of its talent, releasing commentator Josh Mathews. The story was first reported by PWInsider, noting that several sources have stated that Mathews was let go at some point in time between Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25.
While WWE has not announced Mathew’s release, it did slyly remove his profile from the active section on WWE.com. Mathews is no longer listed on the active roster. Instead, his profile is in the alumni section.
Below is Mathews’ profile in the alumni section:
Josh Mathews had been with WWE since 2001, first appearing on the original ‘Tough Enough” reality series. Up until his release, Mathews was part of WWE’s pre and post-show panels for showings of “Monday Night Raw,” “Smackdown,” or its pay-per-view events.

Editor’s Note
WOW. I always liked Mathews and didn’t think he’d be getting released any time soon. It will be interesting to see why he was released. I think it definitely had to be a case of financials and WWE’s supposed budget cuts. No one is safe.
