Following Week 2 of the 2014 National Football League regular season, one man stands alone as the leader in sacks. That man is Washington Redskins 26-year-old outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, who leads the field with four sacks in total. All of his sacks came in his second game, in which he sacked Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne four times.
As most defensive players do after a sack, Kerrigan did a little sack dance or celebration. The dance following two of his sacks would seem all too familiar to fans of WWE:
Watch his celebration below:
During the post-game media scrum, Kerrigan explained how the dance came about. Of course, he mentioned that it came from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. Though, Kerrigan would go on to note that it wasn’t his idea. Instead, it was heavily influenced by teammate and fellow linebacker Will Compton.
Below are Kerrigan’s words to The Washington Post:
“[Linebacker] Will Compton has been in my ear for a while to do the Shawn Michaels from HBK. All he’s been saying is, ‘Do the HBK.’ Finally, I did right by him and hit the HBK a couple of times. The second and third time, I didn’t do it. I got some hell from him. After, he said to me, ‘Why didn’t you do it? You need to trademark it!’ I told him, ‘Well, I can’t trademark it, it’s HBK.’ But that’s where it came from. You can thank Will Compton.”
Editor’s Note
Awesome celebration.
