As we previously reported, TheWrap.com claimed that WWE and Warner Bros. were discussing the latter purchasing the entire WWE library. The library holds more than 150,000 hours of content, and Cinedigm, who according to TheWrap.com is its holder, is reportedly looking to transition away from it.
However, the past report has been refuted by reputable wrestling website PWInsider. The website received confirmation from several WWE sources that the story was completely false. It also noted that TheWrap.com incorrectly identified Cinedigm as the holder of WWE’s content library.
Instead, WWE owns all of its content, as CFO George Barrios has continuously stated during calls with its stockholders. However, Cinedigm is actually in control of all of WWE’s DVDs and Blu-Ray sets, as the company distributes WWE’s home video releases.
Instead of Warner Bros. looking to purchase WWE’s content library, it appears it may had been discussing a partnership on some of WWE’s home video releases. F4WOnline reports that Warner Bros. was actually looking to acquire home video distribution rights for WWE’s library. The two sides have been partners in the past, as they previously worked together on WWE’s “Scooby Doo” and “Flinstones” projects.
Editor’s Note
It did seem odd that WWE would sell its entire content library. Looks like the original report was incorrect.
