The day after the latest live NXT special, “NXT TakeOver: Rival,” WWE taped a series of February and March editions of “NXT.” The series of “NXT” tapings on Feb. 12 saw two notable former WWE stars return to in-ring action for the company.
First, Rhyno returned to a huge pop, wrestling on the Feb. 18 showing of “NXT.” This marked Rhyno’s first appearance in WWE in more than nine years. Later on in the night, Brian Kendrick, once again billed as “The Brian Kendrick” returned to WWE. The former WWE Tag Team Champion made his first appearance for WWE since 2009, wrestling on the Feb. 25 edition of “NXT.”
Following the two returns, PWInsider published a report with some additional information surrounding their returns to WWE. According to the website, neither Rhyno or Brian Kendrick had signed new deals with WWE at the time of their appearance. While that may always change, Rhyno and Kendrick were reportedly the first of what WWE hopes to be many former veteran talents appearing on “NXT.” WWE is looking to use established talent in its developmental promotion in order to have them work with WWE’s younger talent in waiting.
Editor’s Note
Now that’s a good way to use established talent. Have them work with your young stars in waiting, while not making them the focal point of the product.
