Former WWE star Alberto Del Rio, now known as Alberto El Patron has been one of wrestling’s most-sought after free agents since his departure from WWE. First, he teamed up with AAA, and will be part of its “Lucha Underground” series. The former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion can now compete in the United States, and has signed on with Ring of Honor.
Alberto, who is even being pursued by MMA companies, is also being heavily targeted by TNA, according to a recent issue of Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The company has reportedly offered him a one-year deal for $400,000, which is said to be a high “serious” offer for TNA. However, TNA wants to utilize Alberto exclusively, which is currently preventing a deal.
TNA has pitched a deal to Del Rio around the premise that TNA will give him more television exposure in the United States than anyone else. With Del Rio working “Lucha Underground” in the future, and appearing for Ring of Honor soon, TNA may very well have to drop the request for exclusivity. Additionally, TNA has been pushing hard for Del Rio because of his good relationship with current TNA official John Garburick back from their days in WWE.
Editor’s Note
Del Rio may join TNA, but it would definitely hinge on being able to work for multiple companies.
