WWE aired a special “Elimination Chamber” event on Sunday, May 31, 2015. The event was exclusively broadcast on the WWE Network, and featured two matches contested inside the chamber structure. The second of which saw six men compete for the vacant Intercontinental Championship, relinquished by Daniel Bryan back on the May 11 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”
The match pitted Sheamus, King Barrett, Ryback, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth, and Mark Henry against each other with prestigious championship gold on the line. Henry was a last minute replacement for Rusev, who was unable to compete due to a foot injury.
First, King Barrett, who was not fortunate enough to draw one of the final four spots, guaranteeing time spent in a pod, was the first combatant eliminated. Truth, who pinned Barrett, would receive a “Shellshock” from Ryback soon after Barrett’s elimination.
In the end, it would be Ryback who became the new WWE Intercontinental Champion, last eliminating Sheamus. “The Celtic Warrior” smartly utilized his signature Celtic cross to prevent his chamber pod from opening when it was supposed to. After waiting to enter on his own accord, a fresh Sheamus went on to eliminate Mark Henry and Dolph Ziggler. However, it would be Ryback, turning the tables on Sheamus, and winning his first title in WWE.
