On Thursday, June 12, WWE’s decision to release 11 of its employees shocked the professional wrestling world. Previous reports suggested that WWE would not be releasing any of its main talent. Instead, the company would simply let its contracts expire. However, it appears that things changed thanks in part to the low revenue generated from the WWE Network.
As there is any time that WWE releases one of its employees, there was speculation that some of those released would jump to TNA. PWInsider has published a report, detailing when certain talent could make the jump to TNA or other promotions.
The website noted that of the 11 people released, only Theodore “Teddy” Long has the freedom to do what he wants. As we previously noted, his contract expired, which allows him to make the jump to any other company.
On the other hand, the 10 other talents will have to wait. Because they were still contractually tied to WWE and had to be informed of their release, they will still be paid by WWE for 90 days. After the passing of 90 days, they will be free to sign with TNA or any other wrestling promotion. This means that Sept. 12 would be the earliest date for the released talent so sign on with another company.
Editor’s Note
I know it’s always the cool thing to say, but I would not be surprised if TNA doesn’t sign much, if any, of the released talent. There are far better places for the released talent to go.
