WWE aired the penultimate showing of “Monday Night Raw” prior to WrestleMania 31 on March 16. The show featured WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, in addition to an unadvertised surprise appearance by Sting, closing the show. Despite the star power, the March 16 edition of “Monday Night Raw” averaged 3.919 million viewers, up ever-so-slightly from the previous week’s figure of 3.881 million, according to TVByTheNumbers.com.
Below is the hourly viewership breakdown for the March 16 episode of “Monday Night Raw:”
Hour 1: 3.881 million viewers
Hour 2: 3.961 million viewers
Hour 3: 3.915 million viewers
For the second consecutive week, not one hour of “Monday Night Raw” obtained more than four million viewers. In fact, this is also the third straight week that WWE has failed to draw in a total average of at least four million viewers.
Despite the considerably low viewership figures for WrestleMania season, the March 16 “Monday Night Raw” was the most-viewed and highest-rated cable program. “Raw” obtained a rating of 1.4 for adults aged 18-49, edging out “Better Call Saul,” which garnered a 1.3 for the demographic.
Editor’s Note
It is evident that WWE must not be too invested in obtaining increased viewership. You would think that the company would advertise or even tease a Sting appearance for the night, if it highly values viewership.
