As we previously reported, shortly after it was first known that Daniel Bryan had a lingering neck injury, he was still slated to face Triple H in a Street Fight for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at a live event at Madison Square Garden on July 12. This led some to believe that Bryan would not be out of action long. However, as we now know, Bryan has been stripped of his title due to his inability to compete at “Money in the Bank.”
Similarly to upcoming “Smackdown” tapings pulling Bryan from advertisements, he has now been pulled from the live event at Madison Square Garden on July 12. Instead of Triple H facing Bryan, there will now be a 20-man lumberjack match, in which John Cena will go up against Bray Wyatt. 10 of the lumberjacks will be led by Triple H, while the other 10 will be led by none other than Ric Flair.
Below is a look at the advertisement from TheGarden.com:
As noted, Ric Flair has passed tests mandated by WWE, meaning he will be returning to WWE programming in the near future. Despite rumors that he and The Miz would return during the June 16 edition of “Monday Night Raw” from Cleveland, Ohio, neither of the two made their returns.
Another interesting note from the advertisement is that “Goldust & Stardust” appear on the advertisement. This likely means Stardust, portrayed by Cody Rhodes, will be sticking around for the foreseeable future.
Editor’s Note
This seemingly confirms reports that Ric Flair will be returning as an on-screen character for WWE. It’s interesting that he’s pitted up against Triple H. This likely means that Flair will be returning as a babyface. While I’d prefer he work as a heel, I’m completely fine if Flair works as a babyface, as long as Miz is not involved.
