As we previously reported, there are currently two cities making a push to host WrestleMania 31. One of the cities listed in the report was Philadelphia. The surfacing reports of their bids led to Philadelphia Sports Congress making a statement on the matter. Looking even further down the line, according to PWInsider.com, Detroit, Michigan is being considered to host WrestleMania 32. If Detroit wins the bid, Ford Field will host the event in 2016. The home of the Detroit Lions also hosted WrestleMania 23, so it wouldn’t be the first time that WWE’s biggest spectacle comes to Detroit.
Although, Detroit will likely not receive any help from their bordering neighbors up north in Windsor, Ontario. The City Councillor of Windsor, Alan Halberstadt has been against giving $60,000 to Detroit, even though the City of Windsor has authorized it.
Halberstadt wrote the following on his website about the situation:
“Again, $60,000.00 for Wrestlemania 2016 + $280,000.00 for Grand Prix 2013 through 2016 = approx. $1.62 for every man, woman and child in Windsor (based on a population of 210,000) with no metrics to show any net benefit other than the WORLD STAGE argument.”
