As noted, by far the hottest topic in the professional wrestling industry today, Thursday, June 12, is WWE’s decision to release 11 members of its talent: These 11 people are Brodus Clay, JTG, Curtis Hawkins, referee Marc Harris, Aksana, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu, Camacho, and Theodore “Teddy” Long.
The releases came as a shock to many due to recent reports that WWE will simply let the contracts of inactive talents expire. Following this shocking news, PWInsider has published a detailed report on the subject.
In terms of specific talent, it is reported that for quite some time people felt that Yoshi Tatsu had regressed in the ring. Regarding Brodus Clay, it is said that he fell out of favor with WWE’s creative team. In the case of Teddy Long, his contract had expired, and many knew he was on his way out.
Among the 11 releases, Camacho’s and Curt Hawkins’ were the most surprising within WWE. Among those connected to NXT, Camacho was very popular and well-received. Hawkins, on the other hand, reportedly had several years left on his contract.
Additionally, the website has provided details on why these releases happened. One of the main causes is reportedly the WWE Network’s failure to draw in a plethora of subscribers.
The website also noted that the releases may not be finished, as there is a lot of talk within the company that more cuts are to come. However, these releases will instead be on the administrative side of the company, and could come as soon as tomorrow, Friday, June 13.
Finally, PWInsider reported that Mark Carrano, who works in Talent Relations under Triple H, is the one who made the majority of the cuts, over the phone.
Editor’s Note
Not that surprised that the WWE Network played a role in all this. Though, I am surprised that administrative cuts may be coming tomorrow, Friday the 13th. (Too spooky)
