Shawn Michaels Admits That He Wrestled While He Was Drunk

It’s pretty well-known that Shawn Michaels had his fair share of issues during his run on top in the mid and late-90s, but those issues never really had a negative impact on his in-ring performance. But, that doesn’t mean that he was never inebriated while he was in the ring.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Michaels was asked about his past issues, and if he was ever drunk or high while he was actually in the ring. Without hesitation, Michaels said yes, and he explained how he pulled it off without anyone knowing.

“Yeah [I’ve wrestled drunk]. One, I wasn’t ever three sheets to the wind. One of the things that worked for me, and I’m saying this with all humility, I was so naturally gifted. I could do that stuff blindfolded and standing on one leg. I was put on this earth at that time in my life to do that stuff. There’s absolutely nothing more comfortable or natural to me than being a pro wrestler as silly as that sounds. I really know for a fact that I was built to do that for that time in my life. Not to glorify that, but I could do it.”

Michaels also said that he’s quite confident that, even at the age of 51, he could come back and still be a top guy in WWE.

“People ask me ‘hey,  you’re 51 and you’re in pretty good shape, why don’t you come back?’ One, I don’t want to, but could could I? Sure. I could, and I think I could probably compete with any young guy there.”

Sadly though, we’ll probably never see if Michaels can, in fact, compete with the young guys on the WWE roster.
